Personal Year Numbers: How to Navigate the 9-Year Cycle

The Personal Year calculation is simple and requires only your birth month, birth day, and the current calendar year. Add your birth month as a number + your birth day + the digits of the current year, then reduce to a single digit or master number.

Example: Born June 14, calculating Personal Year for 2026. 6 (June) + 1+4 (day 14 = 5) + 2+0+2+6 (year 2026 = 10 = 1) = 6+5+1 = 12 → 1+2 = 3. Personal Year 3 in 2026.

The Personal Year runs from January 1 to December 31 of the calendar year — not from birthday to birthday, though some numerologists use the birthday-to-birthday span. The most widely practiced convention is the calendar year. Note that the transition into the new Personal Year is often felt as early as October–November of the preceding year, as the energy of the coming year begins to build.

The nine Personal Years form a complete developmental arc — from initiation (1) through expansion, consolidation, testing, and ultimately completion (9), before the cycle resets. Each cycle is unique because the internal and external circumstances of the person cycling through it are always evolving.

Launching a business in a Personal Year 1 — when the cycle is at its most initiatory — aligns the effort with an opening energy that a Year 4 or Year 7 cannot replicate. Getting married in a Year 6 (responsibility, love, home) tends to feel more natural than in a Year 5 (change, freedom, disruption). Making a major investment in Year 8 (material achievement) often produces better results than the same action in Year 9 (release, completion).

This does not mean that important things don't happen in 'wrong' years — they do, always. But understanding the cycle can help you interpret why a Year 4 feels so effortful (it's supposed to — it's building season), why Year 7 feels so quiet (inner growth is the work), and why Year 9 so often brings endings you didn't fully choose.
